BEAT Festival 2023 - Courage Special Moments - Thursday
Welcome to the 44th annual Beat. The Beat Festival vividly demonstrates the enthusiasm, dedication and resilience of NT students, teachers, admin staff, parents, the BEAT Foundation, sponsors, and the NT Department of Education.
We'd especially like to celebrate the participation of Alyangula School, Belyuen School, Gunbalanya School, Shepherdson College (Elcho Island), Maningrida School, Nhulunbuy Primary School and Jabiru School in this year’s Darwin Beat Festival performances. This is a record number of remote schools in the Darwin Beat in recent memory. These schools join BEAT Festival regulars, Casuarina Street Primary School (Katherine). We also have a wonderful student musician from Katherine High School joining the 32-piece BEAT Festival Band in the orchestra pit, and a vocal soloist from Centralian Senior College (Alice Springs) singing her own original song with the full BEAT choir and band.
The Darwin BEAT, in its 44th year, is now the second of three major BEAT Festival events in the annual calendar. The 8th Katherine BEAT has already been successfully staged in Term 2 this year, and the 13th Alice BEAT is still to come in Term 4. The BEAT Festival program has grown substantially from its Darwin origins in recent years.
The BEAT Festival brings together a wide age range of students from dozens of schools, demonstrating the cultural confidence and harmony of the NT, reflected in its public school system. This would not happen without the prioritisation of arts education by the NT Department of Education at all levels and by principals, teachers, families, students and schools - who all recognise the intrinsic value and fundamental importance of creativity and the arts in our lives.
Thanks to our wonderful sponsors, the Northern Territory Government, City of Darwin and Rotary Club of Darwin for their support. You can find more information about the BEAT Festival, and hundreds of beautiful BEAT photos on our website.
Thank you also for your vital support of the BEAT Festival and valuing the hard work and spirit of all the participating students.
